Word & Excel, Right From the Chat

Two bundled MCP servers let Plexon read, create, and edit Microsoft Office documents end-to-end without ever leaving the conversation. No Word or Excel install required: the servers operate directly on .docx and .xlsx files via python-docx and openpyxl, so everything works the same on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Pre-Activated on the Personas That Need Them

Writer, Financial Analyst, Product Manager, and Dietitian personas automatically activate the right Office tools at install, so the AI is ready to draft PRDs, run DCF models, or build meal plans the moment you pick a persona. Software Developer and Designer skip them, because those workflows live elsewhere.

Live Editing When Word Is Open

The Word server detects a running Microsoft Word instance on Windows (or macOS via JXA) and switches to live-editing mode: edits appear as native tracked changes with per-action undo and cursor-level attribution. Close Word and the server transparently falls back to direct .docx file manipulation via python-docx, so nothing breaks on Linux or when Word isn't installed.

Compose Workflows That Span Word and Excel

Because the two servers are siblings rather than alternatives, the AI chains them whenever the task spans both. Ask for a quarter-over-quarter analysis and a one-page narrative, generate personalised letters for every row of a client list, or keep an Excel model and a Word memo in sync, all in a single chat turn.

Headings, paragraphs, tables, images, bulleted and numbered lists, footnotes, custom styles, cell-level formatting, comment threads, password protection, digital signatures, search-and-replace. Powered by the word-mcp-live superset of the python-docx ecosystem.

excel-mcp: Full Workbook Surface

Cells, formulas, number formats, ranges, merged blocks, pivot-style breakdowns, charts (column / bar / line / pie / scatter), conditional formatting, freeze panes, all via openpyxl. No Excel install required on any platform.

Cross-Platform by Default

Both servers operate on the files directly: no Office install needed on Linux or headless servers. The Word server additionally upgrades to live COM / JXA editing only when it detects Word is already open.

Zero Configuration

Neither server declares any required environment variables. Enable from Settings → MCP → Browse in one click. No API keys, no prompts, no external accounts. The only runtime prerequisite is uvx, the same tool already used by the bundled Git server.

Pre-Activated Persona Defaults

Writer and Product Manager get office-word on install. Financial Analyst and Dietitian get both. Marketer, Software Developer, and Designer skip them: their workflows live in Google Docs, code, and visual tools respectively. Everything is user-toggleable.

Composable With Every Other Tool

The Office servers are ordinary MCP servers, so they chain with Playwright, Firecrawl, Context7, Memory, and everything else in the registry. Ask the Orchestrator to scrape a source, analyse the data in Excel, and draft a Word memo, all in parallel subtasks.
