TaskTracking
On a multi-step request the AI keeps a live checklist: what is done, what it is doing right now, what is next. A progress line above the message box tracks it, and between turns the list is yours to edit. The AI honors your changes.
A Live Checklist for Every Request
Give the AI a multi-step request and it breaks the work into a checklist it keeps current as it goes: pending, in progress, done. Each chat carries its own list, approved plans seed it with their steps, and switching chats switches lists.
- One task list per chat, kept by the AI as it works
- Approving a plan seeds the list with the plan's checklist
- Items move pending, in progress, done in real time
- A short note explains why the plan changed shape when it does
The Progress Line Above the Message Box
A compact line above the composer shows how far the work has gotten and what the AI is doing right now, in plain words: 3/7, Running tests. It stays out of the way, and one click opens the full Tasks panel.
- Fraction, progress ring, and what the AI is doing right now
- Present-tense labels like Running tests, not raw step names
- Click opens the full Tasks panel
- Hidden when the chat has no tasks
Your List Too
While the AI runs, the list is a live view. The moment it finishes, the list belongs to you: check items off, reopen them, add steps the AI missed, delete ones you no longer want, reorder the rest, or clear the list. The AI is told exactly what you changed at the start of its next turn and treats your edits as final.
- Check off, add, delete, and reorder between turns
- The AI hears what changed and never resurrects a deleted task
- Editing locks while the AI works, so nothing you do is overwritten
- Clear the whole list with one confirmed click
Honest at the Edges
A task list is only useful if it never lies. When a turn finishes cleanly, a last item the AI walked to the end but forgot to tick closes itself. When you press Stop, the in-progress item drops back to pending instead of spinning forever. And the panel opens once when a list first appears, then stays where you put it.
- A finished turn closes its last dangling item
- Stop demotes the in-progress item instead of leaving a spinner
- An idle chat shows a still marker, not a fake spinner
- The panel never steals focus on updates
Under the Hood
One Robust Contract
The AI resends the whole checklist on every update, a format every model tier handles reliably. No fragile per-item bookkeeping to get wrong mid-task.
One Owner at Turn End
The app, not the model, settles the list when a turn ends: sealed when the work finished, reverted when you stopped it, untouched when a retry still needs it.
Edits That Stick
Your panel edits are recorded as a short note the AI reads at the start of its next turn, phrased as the final word: the edited list is the real one.
Per-Chat Files
Each chat writes its list to its own markdown file under the project's .plexon folder, so two chats in one project can never overwrite each other.
